Pace Di Donna Schrader Celebrates Muses at Art Basel Paris

The gallery’s booth brings together major 20th-century paintings and sculpture, including works by Albers, Brancusi, Calder, Dalí, Giacometti, Gnoli, de Kooning, Lichtenstein, Magritte, Modigliani, O’Keeffe, Picabia, Picasso, Richter, and Warhol.

A rare painting by Amedeo Modigliani, first exhibited in Modigliani’s only lifetime solo exhibition in 1917, anchors the booth.

Pace Di Donna Schrader Galleries will reveal a selection of museum-quality 20th-century works that explore the enduring role of the muse. On view at the Grand Palais October 21-25, 2026, the presentation at booth E32 will feature seminal subjects that have inspired, challenged, and shaped the most accomplished 20th-century artists and their practices.

PDS will consider the muse as a multi-faceted source of artistic inspiration, taking shape in lovers, friends, and family, but also in the realms of nature, dreams, spirituality, and abstract form. Juxtaposing these key motifs in unexpected dialogues, the presentation will investigate the ways in which artists have continually drawn from their immediate environments and relationships as subjects, collaborators, and catalysts for new ideas.

The booth is anchored by Amedeo Modigliani’s Nu étendu (Lolotte) (1917), which depicts the artist’s most celebrated, radical, and visually arresting subject, the reclining nude. The majority of examples from his series of reclining nudes, painted from 1916 to 1919, are now held in significant museum collections around the world. This work boasts exceptional exhibition history, and confirmation of its inclusion in the artist’s only lifetime solo exhibition in 1917 at Galerie Berthe Weill was established through scholar Marc Restellini’s research and scientific methodologies. Nu étendu (Lolotte)’s presentation at Art Basel Paris marks its return to market over a century after the present owner’s family acquired the work from Modigliani’s dealer Léopold Zborowski in 1920. Additional highlight works include Constantin Brancusi’s La Muse endormie II (1922/74), Alberto Giacometti’s Buste d'homme (Diego) (1959/60–61), Francis Picabia’s Jeune fille (1912), and Salvador Dalí’s Vénus de Milo aux tiroirs (1936/64).

Coinciding with its presentation at Art Basel Paris, Pace Di Donna Schrader Galleries will also collaborate with Paris-based Galerie Chastel-Maréchal on L’Appartement: Galerie Chastel-Maréchal Invites Pace Di Donna Schrader Galleries, an exhibition bringing key pieces of 20th-century art into dialogue with exceptional examples of French design, from the Art Deco period through the mid-century. On view from October 18 through November 1, 2026, the exhibition will unfold throughout Galerie Chastel-Maréchal’s private apartment on Rue de Rivoli, where PDS will present works by Pablo Picasso, Andy Warhol, Jean Dubuffet, and others alongside furniture, ceramics, sculpture, and decorative objects selected by Aline Chastel.
